Monoclinic gallium oxide (beta-Ga2O3) micron rods have been synthesized via solution route, and the products were characterized by FE-SEM, TEM, HR-TEM, and XRD. Compared with beta-Ga2O3 powder, PL spectrum of beta-Ga2O3 micron rods exhibits more intensive blue emission and a salient blue shift. The beta-Ga2O3 micron rods should be of particular interest for optoelectronic devices application. The possible formation mechanism was discussed and the synthesis route should also be applicable to synthesize other metal oxides micron rods. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
