Ion mobility spectrometry along with headspace extraction was used for the determination of methadone in human hair. The hair samples were digested in an extraction cell containing NaOH and NaCl. Then, headspace extraction and determination processes were continuously performed. The calibration curve was linear over a range of 0.20 to 25 ng mg(-1) with a correlation coefficient of 0.987. The limit of detection and the limit of quantitation were 0.01 and 0.03 ng mg(-1), respectively. The relative standard deviation and the extraction recovery were 8.7% and about 70%, respectively. The developed method was applied to the analysis of real samples.
