Spasticity is a term that has been used by clinicians and researcher for decades, yet there is little agreement about what it actually means. Numerous definitions for spasticity have been proposed and as knowledge of the phenomenon builds, definitions that were accepted in the past may no longer be valid. This paper does not attempt to define spasticity but instead explores how the definitions for spasticity have evolved over time and illustrates the need for authors to be cautious when using the term.
