Hydroxyborohydride (sodium and potassium salts) were prepared by a one-pot method and the H-1 NMR spectrum of sodium hydroxyborohydride was recorded for the first time. Based on an NMR experiment, hydroxyborohydride was found to be more reactive toward acetone carbonyl than borohydride. The calculated B-11- and B-10-H coupling constants are in very good agreement with experimental data, and support the hypothesis about the detection of the (BH3OH)(-) anion as an individual species in solution.
