Electrical properties of Pb(Zr0.53Ti0.47)O-3/CoFe3O4 (PZT/CFO) multilayers (MLs) were investigated in the light of Maxwell-Wagner space charge effects and the data differ from those of BiFeO3/CoFe3O4 nanocomposites. These MLs are of special interest as weak field sensors of magnetism. These data fit the Maxwell-Wagner space charge model of Catalan [Appl. Phys. Lett. 77, 3078 (2000)]. Very large temperature shifts in dielectric loss peak (>200 K) are indicative of high space charge density at the PZT/CFO interfaces. These conclusions are confirmed by spurious hysteresis loop that are similar to those of highly conducting specimens. (C) 2007 American Institute of Physics.
