Three one-dimensional (1D) polymers assembled of Ag-C bonds, [Ag-2(mu(3)-L)(2)(MeCN)](n) (1-3) [L = 4,4,4-trifluorol-phenyl-1,3-butandione (HTFPB) (1), 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-naphthyl-1,3-butandionate (HTFNB) (2), and 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-thiophen1,3-butandione (HTFFB) (3)] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and IH NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability of compounds 1-3 were studied by thermal gravimetric and differential thermal analyses. The single-crystal X-ray structures of compounds I and 2 show two types of Ag-1 ions with coordination numbers of five and four. The Ag atoms contain strong Ag-1-C-methine bonds and thus produce ID corrugated tape coordination polymers. Furthermore, the ligands and complexes 1-3 are luminescent in the solid state with emission maxima in the visible light region (lambda(max)= 470 nm). The results of studies the stoichiometry and formation of complexes 1-3 in acetonitrile solution were found to be in support of their solid-state stoic hi ometries.
