A poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) gel was synthesized by using 1-dodecanethiol (DDT) as chain transfer agent. This PNIPAM gel exhibits higher swelling ratio at low temperature and much faster deswelling rate than conventional gel, which could be attributed to the presence of dangling chains in the gel mainly caused by DDT.
