The energy spectrum of thin pseudomorphic InAs quantum wells (QWs) in an AlAs matrix has been studied by steady-state and transient photoluminescence (PL) and calculation. It has been found that the PL spectra of the QWs consist of intense lines related to a no-phonon excitonic transition accompanied by its phonon replicas. The band alignment in the QWs is shown to be of type I, with the lowest conduction band states belonging to the indirect X(XY) minimum.
