Nanocrystalline Ti(C1 - x, N-x) was prepared via carbothermal reduction nitridation of TiO2 method in closing nitrogen atmosphere. The results indicated that nanocrystalline Ti(C-0.3,N-0.7) powders of 37 nm can be synthesised using carbon black and TiO2 mixed powders as starting materials with a molar ratio of 2.3 : 1 at 1450 degrees C for 4 h under a nitrogen pressure of 0.005 MPa.
