A rhodium(III)-catalyzed selective olefination of picolinamide derivatives has been developed. The reaction shows high regioselectivity, low catalyst loading (0.5mol%), high yield and good functional group tolerance, providing a convenient strategy for the synthesis of 3-alkenylpicolinamides.
