Stable, bright-white-light-emitting phosphor is fabricated from 5.5-nm CdSe quantum dots that are incorporated into a silica gel and calcined at 500 degrees C under air. Excited by UV radiation, the emitted light has almost pure white-light coordinates of (0.34, 0.36) on the CIE (Commission internationale de l'eclairage) chromaticity chart and a Scotopic/Photopic ratio of 2.56.
