Fast oxide ion conductivity is observed in a structurally complex material, CeNbO4+d, at remarkably low temperatures (see figure), indicating that a new approach to bulk ionic conductors may be required, opening a new research direction for future electrochemical devices such as solid oxide fuel cells.
