High solid-state quantum efficiency (Phi(PL) approximate to 0.90) materials with attractive properties for OLED and laser applications are reported. Our results show that long fluorene chain-lengths are not a necessary prerequisite for efficient solid-state luminescence. Isolated-molecule-like solid-state emission, stable pure-deep-blue electroluminescence, and low-threshold lasing (lambda(laser) = 437 nm, E-th(laser) approximate to 0.4 nJ/pulse, 1.3 mu J cm(-2)) are demonstrated.
