The generation of biodegradable plasmon resonant nanoparticles may enable their translation to clinical applications. By reducing gold onto the surface of liposomes, plasmon resonance is generated that is tunable by changing the density of reduced gold dots. Biodegradation of such structures yields clusters of size compatible with the requirements of renal clearance.
