Blue host materials for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on silicon-cored (tetraphenylsilane) anthrac&ne derivatives are synthesized (see figure). These compounds, with a non-coplanar molecular structure, have high glass-transition temperatures and good amorphous-film-forming capabilities. When doped with a blue-fluorescent dopant, blue emission with high color purity and high efficiency, up to 7.5cd A-' and 6.3%, is achieved.
