A new metal-organic framework (MOF), based on 4,4',4 ''-s-triazin-1,3,5-triyltri-p-aminobenzoate (TATAB) [[Co-2(TATAB)(OH)(H2O)(2)]center dot H2O center dot 0.6O](n) (1) was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Compound 1 was also prepared in nanoscale using ultrasound radiation. The adsorption behavior of 1 and its nanostructure was investigated with respect to Pb2+, Cd2+, Al3+, Hg2+ and Fe3+ ions and the affinity of the adsorption of the metal ions was evaluated in terms of exposure time and pH. The results showed that the prepared compounds are able to adsorb the metal ions efficiently under room conditions. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
