Vertically oriented MoO(3 )nanosheets on graphene are achieved via a nucleation-growth approach. The unique hierarchical structure can not only efficiently prevent the aggregation of electrode materials, but also facilitate rapid diffusion of both lithium ions and electrons. With this unique structure, the resultant MoO3-graphene hybrid exhibits remarkable electrochemical performance for lithium storage with a fine gravimetric capacity of similar to 1500 mA h g(-1), a high volumetric capacity of similar to 750 mA h cm(3) and an excellent cycle life up to 1000 cycles for lithium storage.
