The attempt to enhance the safety aspects in low cost houses (LCH) development is still neglected and one of the reason that may contribute to this factor is due to its low price value. Hence, Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is adopted to assess the safety requirements as this study is aimed to develop a benchmark for safety aspects for LCH in Malaysia. This paper elaborates the concept of POE in LCH and factors that constitute to the safety failures in LCH. This paper also discusses on the hierarchy of safety elements and attributes as the design of survey. (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V.
