With its abundant bird resources, China is becoming one of the most important destinations for bird watching. Sichuan province accounts for 50% of China's total national bird species and attracts domestic and international researchers and tourists. However, the development of birding tourism in Sichuan and relevant research are still at an early stage. This paper presents an investigation of birding tourism in Sichuan based on a literature survey, field work and interviews with experts. The paper examines birding resources, site characteristics, economic feasibility and the key factors affecting the tourism industry in this region. Current problems relating to Sichuan's birding tourism are discussed in conjunction with its prospects.
