W9Nb8O47 and W7Nb4O31 phases were effectively synthesized and qualified as optimistic electrode materials for lithium ion batteries for the first time. Elegant and flexible method for the preparation of W9Nb8O47, W7Nb4O31 which goes via a superficial sol-gel method is developed. The structure, morphology and their electrochemical properties have been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and galvanostatic charge-discharge test measurements. The ReO3 type structure and the redox couples of tungsten and niobium motivated to study these compounds as electrode materials. The first cycle discharge capacity values are 197 mA h g(-1), 227 mA h g(-1) in the voltage range of 3.2-1.0 V for W9Nb8O47, W7Nb4O31 phases, respectively.
