In this study the graphene oxide (GO) assisted biodegradation of brilliant green dye was studied in microbial fuel cell (MFC). The degradation of dye in MFC was characterized by reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and further analysis was performed by UV-Vis, and FTIR spectroscopy. The successful removal study of the brilliant green dye shows the superior bioactive characteristics of GO on MFC anode. The redox activity was studied during biofilm development via cyclic voltammetry (CV). However, the rational power density of 0.04 mW/cm(2) was calculated corresponding to current density of 0.00025 mA/cm(2). These observations indicated the influence of GO on MFC performance, which could further be improved by incorporating various GO composite materials. This study also highlights operational sustainability and an economical process to fabricate MFCs for their practical applications. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
