A novel complex [Co-II(L)(2)center dot CH3OH] with hydrazone derived from protocatechuic acid (HL=C16H14N2O4) is designed and synthesized. The complex is characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, with unit cell dimensions a = 25.1715(11), b = 9.3518(4), c = 12.8700(6) , beta = 103.6530(10)A degrees, V = 2943.98(75) (3), Z = 4, R (1) = 0.0612, and wR (2) = 0.1439.
