In this work, sorption of U(VI) on aqueous solution of hydrous manganese dioxide (HMO) is studied, and the effects of various environmental factors such as contact time, pH, ionic strength, coexisting ions, and temperature on the sorption behavior of HMO towards radionuclide U(VI) are investigated through batch experiments. Results indicate that pH can strongly influence the sorption of U(VI) on HMO, and suggest an inner-sphere surface complexation and ion exchange mechanism in the sorption process. The best description of adsorption kinetic and isotherm data is found in pseudo-second-order equation and the Langmuir model. A nature of spontaneous and endothermic adsorption process is proved by the thermodynamic data. To summon up, the excellent performance makes HMO the potentiality in the elimination of U(VI).
