A carborane-fused silylene 1-{[PhC(NtBu)(2)] Si}-1,2-C2B10H11 (2) has been prepared and structurally kcharacterized from an equimolar reaction of 1-Li-1,2-C2B10H11 with [PhC((NBu)-Bu-t)(2)]SiCl (1) in Et2O. The reactions of 2 with elemental sulfur and benzophenone afforded the corresponding o-carborane substituted silanethione (3) and silaoxirane (4), respectively. On the other hand, the reaction of 2 with 2-benzoylpyridine led to the isolation of an unexpected compound 5 featuring a SiC2O2 five-membered ring. All new compounds were characterized by multiple NMR spectroscopic techniques and single-crystal X-ray analyses. (c) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
