A novel ionic liquid namely tributyl(3-sulfopropyl)phosphonium hydrogen sulfate (TBSPHS) was designed, constructed and fully characterized via different technical skills like FT-IR, H-1 NMR,C-13 NMR, TG, DTG and DTA analysis. The superior catalytic activity of the novel constructed ionic liquid was successfully explored over the one pot three component condensation of various aromatic aldehydes, anilines and pyruvic acid for the synthesis of 1,5-dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-one derivatives. The described protocol to present a simple and operational conditions with high to excellent yields, short reaction times, green and eco-friendly reaction profile. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V.
