The first study of the coordination ability of the [Re12CS14(mu-O)(3)(OH)(6)](6-) cluster anion was carried out using the cations of alkaline earth metals. Three new compounds displaying supramolecular structures were obtained based on Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ba2+ cations. Compounds K-4[M(H2O)(7)][Re12CS14(mu-O)(3)(OH)(6)]center dot 15H(2)O (M = Ca (1), Sr (2)) demonstrate the structures where disordered Ca2+ or Sr2+ aqua complexes, K+ ions and H2O molecules are stabilized in the channels of anionic sub-lattice formed by cluster anions. Very short hydrogen bonds between the terminal OH- ligands of the cluster anions are observed in these structures. Unlike Ca2+ and Sr2+, the Ba2+ cations are coordinated to the terminal OH-groups as well as to the mu-O2- ligands of the cluster anion forming layered polymeric structure of compound [{Ba(H2O)(4)}{Ba(H2O)(5)}(2){Re12CS14(mu-O)(3)(OH)(6)}]center dot 9H(2)O (3).
