The aim of this paper is to explore the joint effects of quality and environmental management on firms' innovation by addressing the role of knowledge transfer. While previous research has focused on the direct contribution of quality and environmental management to performance outcomes, to the best of our knowledge there has been no research aimed at understanding their joint effect on innovation. Furthermore, we have included knowledge transfer in order to better explain this impact. From 136 questionnaires completed by companies operating in Tunisia, interesting results were generated through structural equation modelling. Both quality and environmental management, which are related, positively influence knowledge transfer and innovation. In addition, knowledge transfer contributes positively to innovation. Overall, our findings show that knowledge transfer has a positive role in the combined impact of quality and environmental management on innovation. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
