In this paper, we present a new dinuclear triazenido copper(I) complex, [Cu-2(L)(2)] 1, formed by the reaction of the triazenido ligand, 1,3-bist(2-bromo)benzeneitriazene (HL) with CuCl. At room temperature, this copper complex shows photoluminescence at 667 nm. Additionally, electrochemical investigations reveal that the electrocatalytic systems based on this copper complex can afford 91.23 and 582.2 mol of hydrogen per mole of catalyst per hour (mol H-2/mol catalyst/h) from acetic acid at an overpotential (OP) of 991.6 mV and an aqueous buffer at an OP of 837.6 mV, respectively. The findings show that transition metal complexes may exhibit various functions in different directions. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
