Alternating current (ac) corona discharge characteristics are studied by using a small corona cage with different applied ac voltages, where the corona cage is located in a 5-m anechoic chamber to avoid the external electromagnetic interference. Characteristic parameters of ac corona pulses are analyzed statistically, such as peak values of primary and secondary pulses in positive half cycle, the interval of secondary pulses, average amplitude, and repetition frequency in both half cycles. Then, the experimental results are explained by using discharge physical mechanism. Besides, the radio interference (RI) current of typical frequencies are measured simultaneously, and the relationship between pulses and 0.5-MHz RI current is discussed.
