A novel adsorbent has been synthesized by functionalization of monodisperse porous poly(3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) particles with phenylalanine (Phe) as a protein-selective ligand. The polymer particle can adsorb protein in its isoelectric pH (4.8), and its maximum capacity is ca. 633 mg/g. The adsorption behavior of poly(HPMA-Cl-co-EGDMA) with Phe resin obeyed Langmuir isotherm well.
