The present work provided the application of cerium-based materials for the high performance supercapacitors. The charge storage mechanism of cerium and the development of high performance cerium-based supercapacitors were reported. It is noted that the fundamental structures of the cerium nanomaterials constructively dominate their properties and applications. Recently, we have shown that Ce(OH)(3), Ce-2(CO3)(3) and Ce(OH)CO3 can be used as electrode materials for high performance supercapacitors. Moreover, this work will also provide a perspective on the future technical trends for the development of different cerium-based materials and their capacitance performances.
