The value of superhydrophobicity in metal corrosion inhibition has generated wide interest due to the high repellent capability from the versatile surface. In this report, using a facile electrolysis approach, we have realized the superhydrophobic film onto Cu surface by the coordination with dodecanethiol based on an electrooxidation-deposition route. The as-formed film behaves as the prominent barrier for inhibiting the corrosion. After immersion in 3.5 wt.% NaCl aqueous solution for 15 days, this superhydrophobic surface still enables high corrosion prohibition effect to the underneath Cu with the inhibition efficiency reaching as high as 99.9%.
