Grimms' Fairy Tales were first introduced in Japan through English textbooks. Likewise, the first Japanese translation in book form by Ryoho Suga was not translated from the German original, but from H.B. Paull's English translation which contains many changes in line with Victorian values. By introducing German writings via English translations, influences of English culture and society were unavoidable.
