The present work investigates the milling process on jute fibre composite material for optimum machining parameters. The major performance indices for characterising the processes are force, roughness and metal removal rate and the corresponding variables considered are speed, feed rate, depth of cut and fibre angle. The optimisation problem is with multiple performance indices, hence Grey relational analysis (GRA) which converts the multi objective case into single objective one is adopted. The weighting values which designate the relative importance of the parameters in optimisation are estimated deploying Principle Component Analysis (PCA). From the results it is observed that GRA coupled with PCA effectively yielded the optimal solution and it is proved with the confirmation test. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
