The study evaluates the potential energy saving achievable by replacing the existing lighting system in a historical building. The analysis focused on an office in the Abbey of San Lorenzo ad Septimum, that is located in Aversa (southern Italy) and houses the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the Second University of Naples. The influence of various actions, such as different types, different arrangement and different mounting height of luminaires and different walls reflectance values were evaluated in terms of Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator LENI and illuminance uniformity. Finally, the influence of three different types of windows were considered. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
