The present study was designed to examine the relationship between dispositional mindfulness and mental health through the mediation of individual strengths. A total of 790 community and student participants from 11 communities and four universities joined in this study. The participants completed the Five-facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, Brief Strengths Scale, Brief Symptom Inventory-18, and Flourishing Scale. Results indicated that individual strengths mediated the relationship between dispositional mindfulness and psychological well-being, as well as psychological distress. Therefore, mindfulness training can be expected to help participants be aware of and enhance their strengths. The training can also further improve mental health by increasing well-being and decreasing symptoms. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
