We reported that the facile synthesis of strontium (Sr) loaded cadmium selenide (CdSe) using simple, cost effective and environment- friendly photodeposition method and used for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye solution for the first time. The newly synthesized Sr/CdSe nanocomposite exhibited the hexagonal phase and grew well crystallinity with the crystallite size of similar to 21 nm. MB dye solution was targeted as a hazardous pollutant to evaluate the photocatalytic efficiency of the Sr/CdSe nanocomposite. The complete degradation of the dye solution occurred within 45 min and the photocatalytic reaction proceeds by the formation of hydroxyl radical (center dot OH) which is strongly evidenced by the trapping experiments. Since this process does not require any oxidant and utilizes the light energy, this provides economically feasible and environmentally friendly method in the treatment of effective dye degradation.
