Mechanochemical synthesis via simple manual grinding is one of the most commonly used green synthetic approaches and is applied here for the synthesis of new hybrid phosphors Cu2I2(tpp)(2)(L)(n) (n = 1, 2). They are strongly luminescent with high internal quantum yields (most above 66% and highest over 92%). The green synthetic route can easily be scaled up to further lower the cost and minimize the usage of auxiliary substances, bringing these materials one step closer towards commercialization.
