Ionic liquids (ILs) bearing tetrahydropyran-2H-yl (THP)-protected thiol moieties were designed and synthesized as extractants for Pd(II)-selective extraction into an IL phase from a mixed aqueous HCl solution of Pd(II) and Pt(IV) salts. (HNMR)-H-1 measurements revealed that metal-selective THP-deprotection by the Pd(II) salt played a critical role to introduce the Pd(II)-selective extraction ability.
