The reactive performance of negative ions evolved in air and O-2 atmospheres through a gas-phase chemiluminescence (CL) method was investigated, and was attributed to the reaction between negative oxygen ions (O-2(-)) to evolve emissive singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) species, and a novel CL system was established.
