A new species belonging to the woody bamboo genus Chusquea (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) is herein segregated from C. capituliflora and described as C. kleinii, based upon observations of macromorphological characters made on living plants in the field, and the micromorphology of leaf surfaces, especially papillae on the abaxial epidermis. Both taxa are endemic to the southern Brazilian Atlantic forest.
