This Perspective discusses recent results on the application of aluminum compounds in catalytic reduction processes, such as hydrogenation, transfer hydrogenation, hydrosilylation, hydroboration, and others. Usually, simple aluminum salts such as halides or triflates have been employed. However, a growing number of well-defined molecular compounds, both cationic and neutral, are also being used in this chemistry.
