A new method for generation and screening Chinese cabbage mutants was employed in this study. In order to quickly obtain homozygous mutants in Chinese cabbage, isolated microspore culturing and ethyl methanesulfonate mutagenesis were performed on a doubled haploid line. Microspores were treated with different concentrations (0.04, 0.08, 0.12 %, v/v) of ethyl methanesulfonate solution for 10 min, and mutagenic microspores were cultured in NLN-13 medium. A total of six stable inheriting mutants were selected, which accounted for 0.46 % of 1304 regenerated plants. The mutants exhibited variation in traits including overall plant shape, floral organs and leaves. These results could be applied in future functional genomics studies on Chinese cabbage.
