An efficient and simple method for C2-functionalization of 2-unsubstituted imidazole N-oxides has been developed. It consists at the condensation of 2-unsubstituted imidazole N-oxides with aldehydes and CH-acids. This method permits broad variations in the structure of starting materials. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
