In the analysis of transfer reaction data to extract nuclear structure information the choice of input parameters to the reaction model such as distorting potentials and overlap functions has a significant impact. In this paper we consider a set of data for the (d, t) and (d, He-3) reactions on O-14,O-16,O-18 as a well-delimited subject for a study of the sensitivity of such analyses to different choices of distorting potentials and overlap functions with particular reference to a previous investigation of the variation of valence nucleon correlations as a function of the difference in nucleon separation energy Delta S = |Sp - Sn|.
