Rod-like MgO was prepared by the simple precipitation method and subsequently evaluated for CO2 capture efficiency under ambient-temperature adsorption and intermediate-temperature regeneration. The MgO precursor was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray power diffraction (XRD), it was decomposed completely at 500 degrees C to form MgO. The as-synthesized MgO samples were characterized by XRD, BET and FE-SEM. The MgO samples were comprised of grains with an approximate length of 4-6 mu m and diameter of 0.5 mu m. The BET surface area of MgO was 330.5 m(2)/g, which was much higher than that of commercial MgO (CM-MgO, 103.2 m(2)/g). The CO2 uptake on MgO samples were evaluated by TGA. As-synthesized MgO had the high CO2 sorption capacity compared to CM-MgO. The effect of temperature on CO2 sorption capacity was also investigated. In addition, the stability of sample was evaluated by cyclic experiment.
