This paper unravels a new strategy of protecting the copper surface through the electropolymerised film of 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole and its TiO2 composite. First, 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole was electropolymerised over copper surface using cyclic voltammetry and by incorporating TiO2, its composite film was prepared. The prepared polymeric and composite films were characterized using Fourier transform-Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photo electron spectroscopic (XPS) analysis, X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX). When investigated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Potentiodynamic Polarisation Studies (PDS), it was found that the corrosion inhibition of copper in 3.5% NaCl medium by the polymer was enhanced by the formation of composite. The effects of increase of concentrations of monomer and TiO2 on corrosion inhibition were also studied. The thermal studies indicated the stability of polymeric film upto a temperature of 400 degrees C. Thus the studies reveal the use of p-AMTa-TiO2 in the protection of copper substrate.
