A corn. epoxy resin was carbonated with CO2 in Me2CO in presence of BullBr and converted to non-isocyanate poly(hydroxyurethanes) (NIPU) in a bulk reaction with NH2(CH2)(n)NH2 (n = 2-6) and NH2CMe2(CH2)(2)CHMe(CH2)(2)NH2. The structure of NIPU was confirmed by spectroscopic methods. They exhibited high thermal stability and low hydrophilicity and were recommended as coatings.
