An approach to making the surface of a cotton cloth possessing superhydrophobic properties is given consisting in graft polymerization of fluoroalkyl metacrylates by the atom transfer radical polymerization method (ATRP). Poly(glycidyl methacrylate) was used as an anchor layer, followed by fixing of the polymerization initiator. The stability of the hydrophobic properties of the modified cloth under prolonged contact with aqueous media and organic solvents was demonstrated.
