A new coordination compound using 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid and cobalt(II) (1 = {(C5H5NH)[Co (C7H4NO4)(C7H3NO4)]center dot(C7H5NO4)center dot(H2O)}(n)) was synthesized by slow evaporation. The compound forms a 1D supramolecular structure by alternating metal-organic coordination chains held together by a combination of covalent and non-covalent bonds. The structure was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR, TGA and DSC. The electrocatalytic properties of 1 were investigated in the oxidation of L-cysteine and it was found to be an able catalyst. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
